Steve Marano and Al Kent on the trail

Steve Marano is a guy with a day job who spends his weekends blazing trails and hiking through his home state. Since his home state happens to be mine now — New Jersey — I’m pretty excited about Steve’s efforts to revitalize the 34-mile Lenape Trail and the very ambitious 130-mile Liberty Water Gap Trail that connects the west and east ends of our great (no joke) garden state.

The Lenape Trail, named for the Native American tribe that lived along the Delaware River, connects about sixteen of our ounty’s most prominent parks, and is an important branch of the longer Liberty Water Gap Trail.

New Jersey drivers the dumbest in the Nation

GMAC Poll released

One in five licensed drivers — some 38 million Americans — lack the knowledge necessary to pass a written driving test, and even more are distracted while driving, according to a survey released Thursday.

The annual GMAC Insurance National Drivers test polled 5,202 licensed drivers from 50 states and the District of Columbia with a 20-question test derived from state department of motor vehicles exams. A passing grade was 70% or better. The survey also asked additional questions about distracting habits such as texting while driving.

The results for New Jersey drivers were dismal; literally at the bottom of the barrel. Nearly 40% of New Jersey drivers would fail a sample driving test, which is 3.6% more than the next worst state.
