Bike & Walk Montclair VP, Rika Alper, on her way to work

Montclair Township

The Township of Montclair has been an integral partner to our organization beginning with the application to NJDOT for a Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan and continuing each year with the Tour de Montclair family-friendly bike ride. The Township and BWM worked together to win two federal Safe Routes to School grants amounting to over $600,000 for infrastructure improvements, enforcement and encouragement activities. Most recently, we worked together to develop and adopt NJ’s first municipal Complete Streets policy. Mayor Jerry Fried and Councilor Nick Lewis serve as Township Liaisons to BWM. Essex County Parks Department

Working with a host of volunteers and local conservancies, Essex County Parks Department has invested more than $60 million of grant money to revitalize NJ parks.  Children and their families can enjoy playgrounds that have modern equipment and rubberized safety surfaces, or kick a soccer ball on one of our synthetic grass soccer fields. There are 17 parks, five reservations and many recreation facilities. Essex County Parks Department is a partner in the Tour de Montclair. Partners for Health is an independent, self-governing public charity serving the Montclair area. Through its unique approach to grantmaking, the foundation develops collaborations among key stakeholders to encourage area residents to live healthier lifestyles and to enhance their ability to do so. Montclair YMCA

The Montclair YMCA generously hosts BWM’s monthly meetings at their 25 Park Street facility. In addition, the Montclair YMCA leads our Bicycle Safety Education Committee and will be offering a number of “Safe Cycling 101” classes for children and adults in the spring of 2010. The Montclair YMCA also collaborates on the town-wide Safe Routes to School program and is an essential element in making the annual Tour de Montclair the great success that it is. We look forward to other partnership opportunities like America on the Move Week, Healthy Kids Day and more. Click here for more info at www.montclairymca.org.

Montclair Public Schools Health and Wellness Partnership (HWP)

The HWP promotes a comprehensive health approach for the Montclair Public Schools which includes physical health as well as emotional and social well-being. BWM’s goal for safe streets, especially to Montclair’s public schools, makes a natural fit for collaboration in a town-wide Safe Routes to School program. For the last three Octobers, the HWP parent liaisons organized successful Walk to School days at all 7 elementary and 3 middle schools in Montclair. Click here for more information.
