Featured Presenter: Sharon Z. Roerty, MCRP/AICP/PP
Sharon Z. Roerty is a new Senior Program Officer at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). She is working with the Childhood Obesity Team. From 2004 to May 2011 Sharon was with the National Center for Bicycling & Walking (NCBW) serving as the Executive Director and the Director of the Active Living Resource Center (ALRC), a national program of RWJF that focused on policy and environmental change. Her expertise is in environmental, transportation and land use planning; and building capacity for change through public involvement.
Sharon was appointed to the Federal Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Task Force by the Secretary of the USDOT; is a member of the SRTS National Review Group; and the review committee for the U.S. DOT Pedestrian Safety Program Strategic Plan. Other active memberships include: NJ Council of Physical Fitness & Sports; the Pedestrian Injury Prevention Program in Newark, NJ; Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center International Advisory Group; America Bikes Board of Directors; and Complete Streets Coalition Steering Committee.
Ms. Roerty has a B.S. in environmental science from Stockton State College; a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning (M.C.R.P.) from Rutgers University; and a Leadership NJ Fellow (2004). She has worked continuously in the planning field since 1982. As a community volunteer Sharon has worked on several committees in Maplewood and South Orange to promote bicycling and walking.
