Hi there –
I work at Action Against Hunger, a global humanitarian organization with programs in nutrition, food security, and water sanitation. We work in 41 countries around the world. I grew up in Montclair and graduated from the Montclair High in 2007. I’m working on bringing our Race Against Hunger – a national service-learning campaign that teaches students about global hunger to Montclair. The Race typically culminates in a school-wide 5K race. Last year’s Race Against Hunger had 70 schools participate with around 17,000 students. Renaissance @ Rand is currently enrolled in the program and I’ve been in touch with Damen Cooper at Montclair High. Jamie-Lynn Scala and Michael Santos at Mt. Hebron have also expressed interest in getting involved. Joanne Aidala over at the Montclair Public Schools Health and Wellness Partnership has been a great resource for helping me to find possible contacts for Race outreach in Montclair.
I grew up in Montclair and I believe that this program would be a great way to involve our entire town. The program centers on global hunger and malnutrition, but it’s also about the importance of staying active and eating well. I’m really impressed by Montclair’s new commitment to health. I believe this program would fit perfectly with that direction. For this year’s Montclair Races, it seems that we should start small and develop some momentum in the program. I would ultimately love to make the Race a town-wide event.
I would love the opportunity to tell you more about the organization and the Race Against Hunger. Thank you in advance for your time. Have a great weekend.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Rachael Polton
