NJ’s Inaugural Bike Summit was a Success

On Saturday, February 27, over 130 participants attended the first NJ Bike Summit in Denville.  Three BWM members attended ans saw first-hand much of what’s happening all around NJ related to bike and pedestrian advocacy.  The Summit’s intent was to unify efforts of NJ advocacy organizations as well as bring the concerns of NJ’s cyclists to the attention of state and local authorities.

The summit was hosted by the New Jersey Bicycle Coalition in coordination with the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

We got to hear from NJ Assemblywoman Grace Spencer who sponsored the three-foot passing bill, Sheree Davis, NJ Bicycle & Pedestrian Office spoke about the state’s Complete Street’s Policy, and national leaders, Andy Clarke of the League of American Bicyclists, Tim Blumenthal of Bikes Belong, Sharon Roerty of the National Center for Bicycling and Walking and Jeff Miller of the Alliance for Biking and Walking, came to offer both inspiration and resources for putting ideas into action.
