Bike&Walk Montclair Announces the Return of the Tour de Montclair
Bike&Walk Montclair is pleased to announce that it is bringing back the Tour de Montclair. The organization’s signature event will be held on Sunday, October 2, in Montclair Center. This family-friendly bike ride will have 12- and 6-mile options, taking riders through the 4 wards of Montclair, highlighting sights that are difficult to notice by car. The Tour de Montclair will begin and end on Glenridge Avenue. The ride’s finish will be celebrated at an Open Streets Festival presented in partnership with the Township of Montclair, and the Montclair Center BID.
Bike&Walk Montclair is responding to an outpouring of requests from the community for the ride’s return. Over 1,000 participants have participated in prior years, and this year’s Tour de Montclair promises to be a memorable celebration. The ride’s theme is “Streets Are for Everyone,” showcasing BWM’s belief that biking and walking should be easy and safe choices for all. “I love the community-building that comes from so many bikes on the streets,” says BWM’s President Paul Mickiewicz. “Although some may not feel comfortable riding in the streets alone, there is safety in numbers. The Tour helps people learn how achievable it is to bike around town and why it is almost always better by bike!”
This year’s Tour will be part of an Open Streets Festival, presented by Schumacher Insurance, to be held from 10am-3 pm on Glenridge Avenue in Montclair Center. The Festival will include music, food, community partners and parklets—mini urban public spaces– for the community to enjoy.
The 2016 Tour de Montclair and the Schumacher Insurance Open Streets Festival are made possible through a strong partnership between Bike&Walk Montclair, the Township of Montclair, and the Montclair Center BID. Event sponsorships are still available.
Registration for the 2016 Tour will soon be available at: www.bikewalkmontclair.org. Pre-registration is strongly suggested. Registration will include a FREE commemorative t-shirt, entrance to the Tour and a one-year membership to Bike&Walk Montclair. Current BWM members who renew membership will also receive the t-shirt and Tour entrance. The event will be held rain or shine.
