Volunteer for the Tour de Montclair
On Sunday, May 16, 2010, Bike & Walk Montclair hosted the annual Tour de Montclair. This scenic family bike tour of Montclair is a springtime favorite among residents, who cycled over 1,200-strong this year.
We invite you to volunteer to make next year’s Tour enjoyable and successful for all participants. Volunteer jobs include:
Route marking - (2 volunteer hours)
Teams of 2 riders will mark the route with arrows strategically positioned at turns and intersections.
Qualities required: Good riders with an understanding of how to mark the route for best impact.
Registration - (3 volunteer hours)
Help with registration of Tour participants: hand out registration sheets to people waiting on line, explain how to fill them out, direct people to the next station.
Qualities required: Enjoyment of personal contacts, comfort with directing a crowd.
Bike Marshals (Stationary) - (4 volunteer hours)
Assist/direct riders at specific turns and/or street crossings (on the long and short routes).
Qualities required: Must feel confident enforcing security and directing a crowd or single riders.
Bike Marshals (Mobile) - (4 volunteer hours)
Ride in the tour to enforce security and assist other riders (on the long route).
Qualities required: Confidence and good biking skills. Marshals must model demeanor and riding.
Ride Marshal Coordinators – (4 volunteer hours)
Coordinators based at Brookdale Park ensure that all ride marshals are in position and have received instructions. Note when positions are vacated and ensure that all marshals return to Brookdale Park.
Qualities required: Good communication and organizational skills.
Marketing throughout coming weeks (unlimited volunteer hours)
Visit local businesses to promote the Tour; distribute flyers and posters at local businesses, churches, post offices, train stations etc.
Qualities required: Outgoing people interested in gaining sales and marketing experience in friendly surroundings.
Training will be provided where necessary. Parental permission required for volunteers riding the tour route.
